Market Day, Even in February

The Winchester Indoor Farmers Market at the Shenandoah Valley Farmer’s Market building saw its biggest turnout of the season last Saturday. Over 40 vendors offered everything from winter greens and fresh eggs to artisan breads and locally roasted coffee.

“People think the market shuts down in winter,” said market manager Emily Torres. “But some of our best produce comes from winter growers. The kale, the root vegetables, the preserves — there’s nothing like it.”

Strasburg Downtown Improvements

The Town of Strasburg approved a $2.1 million downtown streetscape improvement plan that will add new sidewalks, period-appropriate lighting, and expanded parking along King Street. Construction begins in April.

75 Years of Service: Stephenson Volunteer Fire Department

The Stephenson Volunteer Fire Department celebrated its 75th anniversary with a community dinner at the station. Over 200 current and former volunteers gathered to share stories spanning three-quarters of a century of service.

  • Opening: Blue Ridge Books & Vinyl in Winchester (March 15)
  • Closing: Mountain View Diner in Kernstown (final day March 28 — owner retiring after 32 years)
